The Aspen Institute More than eight years have passed since 9/11 without another terror attack. Though America is safer, we are not yet safe. While the dismal state of the economy understandably dominates the national agenda today, terrorism remains a major short-term and long-term threat to the nation.

* Exactly how prepared are we for th...e next attempted attack, and how much more prepared should we be? Where should the line be drawn between security and liberty, and in the years since 9/11 have we erred too much on the side of security?

* What role should government play in preparing the nation for terrorism and what role can and should the average citizen play?

* How can we strike the right balance between being appropriately concerned about the threat of terrorism and yet not terrorized by it?

* Is the “war on terror” metaphor an accurate one or does it do us more harm than good?

To answer critical questions about America's preparedness for security threats, the Aspen Institute Homeland Security Program presents the Aspen Security Forum. The Forum will bring together top-level government officials, industry leaders, and leading thinkers for two days of in-depth discussions at our Aspen Meadows campus in Aspen.
