Post your thoughts on why you believe your chosen series is indeed THE BEST Blackadder series.

Well, I (Tara, the other Blackadder admin so people aren't confused!) have voted for...Blackadder II.

I believe this is the best series because this is when we really see the relationships between the characters come to life. I also think that Blackadder is at his nastiest in this series, I found him to be toadying in the first, slightly smarmy in the third and just bitter in the 4th (but being stuck in the trenches with Baldrick and George I probably would be too!)
But in the 2nd series he has all of these qualities in abundance and I don't believe you ever really see them all together as much in their hideous techicolour glory as much as you do in Blackadder II.

Also has some of the best insults ( "The eyes are open, the mouth moves, but Mr Brain has long since departed, hasn't he, Percy?", anyone?) and the script is snappy.

Also because this is the only series with Nursie and she's one of my favourite characters. In fact, this is the best series for supporting characters..you have Flasheart, Captain Rum, The Ploppy's, Aunt Whiteadder...

And lastly, because I'm a girly-girl, Rowan Atkinson is so sexy in this series! I don't know why, but he is. Perhaps it's because he has a certain charm that Bladders doesn't have in the other series,

I love the third series best, it's got the best jokes, the best characters, and the best twists.

I don't like the first one, as Blackadder isn't very bright and is too coward, then it's hard too choose, in the fourth one, the character has some depth, as it's really a great character, with his vision without illusion about the war and his leader, but the third one is quite funny, Prince George is one of my favourite character and I really love the way Blackadder manages to turn the situation at his advantage at the end of this season. But in the second, the episode when he falls in love and most of all, Money, where he managed to get rid of the monk, are so great. But If I must just choose one, I would say the fourth one is my favourite with the various attempt to avoid facing the enemy.

I voted for Blackadder III too - I love the setting (not too keen on the Tudor setting of series II), and I think Blackadder's sarcastic putdowns and deadpan expressions really shine in this series. Plus I totally love the character of Prince Regent, as his stupidity & inane chirpiness really contrast with the character of Blackadder & make it so much more amusing.

Blackadder II! With III a close second.

Blackadder III with II a very close second...Queenie almost put II over the top, but there's just something about Thick George that's too brilliant to deny.

Am I the only person here who actually loves IV above all? Nope of course not...

I have to go with Blackadder Goes Forth, followed by II, than III.

III, by a long way.

III and IV tied. I do like II as well, but I could watch any of the episodes of III and IV any time.

It's got to be IV followed closely by III.

Blackadder the Third without a doubt its got the best jokes, characters (especially the Duke of Wellington) and the best plots

I love all series except the first. My vote went for Blackadder III - Prince Regent George is such a lovable idiot :-)

I prefer the FIRST series.

I appreciate it was quite different, but there you have it. It's my fave!

I understand that subsequent series needed to have the Blackadder as the sharp one to let Atkinson's acting shine through but I really did like the dynamic of the Black Vegetable, er I mean the Blackadder, as being somewhat spineless with a squire who was the sharp-witted one. Great appearance by Peter Cook in The Foretelling and Frank Finlay as the Witchsmeller Pursuivant and wonderful introduction of Blessed in the perfect role of the verbose, bullying father figure.

The nunnery's on fire!

Series one is pretty rubbish in my opinion, but all the rest are gold. If I had to choose, I'd say season Two; Blackadder is at his sarcastic best, plus, as Tara said, Rowan Atkinson is strangely hot. I love the Queen and Stephen Fry always rocks.

I love the Blackadder Goes Forth season the best. The characters are amazing, and it is a great return for Tim McInery as Darling. Genius.

I couldn't really choose a second favourite - I love Queenie and Nursie. But I really love Prince Regent.
But I think that Rowan is quite dishy in Blackadder II.... Hmmmm... =/

But Blackadder I is the weakest by far. =]

I would have to say i like BlackadderII best also being the fact that after the Tudor period i lose alot of interest in european history also for this reason i enjoyed BlackadderI second largely tho for the character of Richard IV a mightier foe ye will never meet. then goes forth and my least favorite the third..but overall a great series.

series II all the way, although the ending of series IV is blatantly the most thought provoking and feeling of the whole show, ever

I love II and III equally

its so hard II, III & IV are all so brilliant and all so different and that’s what I luv about Blackadder it fresh and new in each series and bloody funny every time.. I ended up voting for series IV

...Goes Forth. The series captured the futility of the First World War better than a lot of academic histories I have read. One of the few modern treatments that doesn't make excuses for "Full Frontal Assault" Haig. I also like the fact that the ending was not at all hammed up.

Ebenezer Blackadder was pretty cool, too. "Spending nights alone in your hovel, reading the Bible, with a turnip of your very own!"

its pretty hard to decide, ive watched all four series quite a few times and i think they're all great, but i'll have to vote for series 2, definitely the one ive watched the most.

I'm not voting on the poll because I don't want to add the application, but I would vote for Blackadder II. I just love it! Percy's discovery of purest green is the funniest thing ever, and I love the wise woman scene, the scene where Baldrick is counting "some beans", Queenie, Melchie, Nursie, "so you don't know the way to France either?" "No, I must admit that too" "Bugger". Classic!

And yes, Rowan is surprisingly sexy as Blackadder II! xx

It's pretty safe to say that series I is never going to win the hearts of many fans, but it's always going to be up for debate between II, III and IV as they're just simply filled with class. I have to pip for III for the simple fact that Hugh Laurie as the Prince is fantastic with his inablility to understand any situation and depict the frailties of nobility. Blackadder's attitude towards Baldrick reaches a new level of violence, belittling and snardiness which I felt works best between the 2 characters throughout the series. Blackadder's deadpan expression, extravagent witticism (favourites being towards Pitt the Young), and ruthlessness to see that he gets what he wants, make such a good viewing. Must admit not having Flasheart make an appearance was dissappointing, though Chris Barrie as a French Revolutionary was a good substitute =P

I voted for Blackadder II, but with Blackadder I as a close second. It was the first one I saw, and LOVED the relationship between Blackadder and his father. Plus, the medieval jokes are pretty funny for someone who almost majored in Medieval history in college. :-)

Black Adder 3 or 4

i love them all, although i think blackadder 2 is something special. it has the charactors at their best i think :) and has some of the most memorable lines. lool the wise women. KILL EVERYYBODDYY lool the fourth one was great as well. i think its good to have a at least a vague idea of the eras that they are in, because otherwise some of it could go over your head. luckily for me it doesnt and i love it :):)
