Blackadder II...a wise choice indeed.

Close second place goes to Blackadder Goes Forth, followed by Blackadder the Third, and lastly The Black Adder.

I'm not surprised by the first series coming last in the poll. It featured the main characters, but lacked the typical cunning.

I'm very surprised at the results. Personally, I think Blackadder the Third should be the last. It was just so ... wrong. A different style to all of the others. I think Blackadder II was good at first because Queenie is absolutely brilliant! And Blackadder Goes Forth is amazing too.

I'm massively surprised at this.. i thought Blackadder started off weak and got steadily better with each consecutive series.

i didnt enjoy season three at all i missed queenie and percy too much

all of em were absolutly badass apart from the first series, which was just pretty good. queenie n prince george are both kick ass characters!

Personally I found The Blackadder to be lacking, Blackadder II was perfect, Regency Blackadder would have been great had it not had to follow II (that made it come across like a poor sequel) and Blackadder goes forth was a very close second place winner for me overall, so I totally agree with the results. For me, Blackadder II had all the qualities a good comedy should have. Wonderfully satirical characters, fanatastically droll humour, historical twists and quirks and surprisingly Rowan Atkinson even looked quite yummy in it! I also think Baldrick was at his best in II. The final episode of Blackadder goes fourth has to win best series final scene of any comedy ever!! (or any series come to that!) Such a poignant way to end.

I personally think that every one got better, I think that queeny and Percy disappearing did not matter that much when The Prince Regent came in. But in The Black Adder (1st one) It was quite funny: "The Nunnery's on fire!!!" But the other 3 series where way better, aswell as the two films, and the cavalier years. (Blackadder: "Here is the head of a traitor!" Audience: "No it's not, It's a pumpkin with a pathetic face drawn on!"

I personally think that 'Born to be King' and 'Witchsmeller Pursuivant' were the best of Blackadder, but they did get increasingly better as time went on. Especially liked 'Blackadder Goes Forth'.

I haven't read all the toss that's built up in this debate, but as an avid Blackadder fan, and an argumentative shitbag, I feel it necessary to contribute. If anybody disagrees, then fair play, I defend your right to your opinion, even if it is ill informed bollocks.
Quite clearly Blackadder I comes last, as Blackadder is a snivelling twat instead of the witty cynic we all love. The other three series are more tightly bunched. You could quite easily make a case for any of them being best, but as this is a debate I won't sit on the fence.
I think the fourth series comes third, despite a huge reluctance to place this series first. Probably the most poignant series, it doesn't lack in humour and Hugh Laurie and Tony Robinson are brilliantly used in the supporting roles, yet again. As I say, it's hard to split the 2nd-4th series, but I just think the 2nd and 3rd series have a bit more scope on the 4th, and although blackadder's cold philosophy is best represented in the last series, the symapthy might just detract from the humour enough to shift this down the list, a tiny bit.
I think the second series comes next. Who can argue with the brilliance of this series? Up there with the greatest comedy achievements of any comedy writers ever. Apart from Atkinson, Robinson and Mcinnery, you have the talents of Fry, Mayall, Miranda Richardson and others. Consistent and brilliantly written, almost flawless. The only thing that keeps this from top spot is the competition, and as great as this series is it's a mark of the writing that the quality kept pouring out for a third series. I wouldn't argue too hard with anyone who had this in top spot.
The third series does just pip it for me though. Very close call with this and series 2 and 4. The performance of Hugh Laurie just steals it though. Brilliant script writing again, and almost flawless in it's execution. Blackadder's character has a slightly added depth this time as an 'adviser/s
ervant' as opposed to just 'servant', but the comedy centres more around the Prince Regent, and Hugh Laurie's character acting lifts the series to the next level. I doubt there's been a better written comedy series, when all things are considered.

Defo the last one was the best, followed by the Regency one - both these are absolutely brilliant! The early ones were much poorer IMO.

I agree Hugh Laurie made series 3 and 4! He is as good as Rowan Atkinson...

Series 3 for me, loved Prince George, closely followed by Blackadder goes forth.

I somewhat agree with the results. The Blackadder was a very poor series and the other three were definitely brilliant. I think the Regency period is the best, followed by the Elizabethan series, then Blackadder goes Forth. However, Miranda Richardson's Queenie is hilarious!

The final scene of Black Adder Goes Forth is one of the saddest but most brilliant endings I have ever seen.

I can't speak for myself but my wife likes the XVIIIth century one the best.

Hard to say, II has lots of goodies - you look like a bird who's swallowed a plate, list of candidates to be lord high executioner... III has lots too - contrafibularities, the Paris collection, as does IV - permission to talk, operation certain death... So I is last, the other 3 - similar but slightly different I find them, each good on their own (sorry for being non-commital!)
I think we all get used to his sarcastic drone which isnt in the first bladder.

Until recently I would have said Season 2 but on cool reflection you have to say that 4 is the best. The characters are so good, Steven Fry and Hugh Laurie in particular, plus it has that amazing last episode, ground breaking for a comedy series.

Season 2, 4,3 1 in that order
